A representative of the Office of Disaster Management, Paul Martens, recently visited Aruba for the beginning of the disaster risk reduction activities on the island. A Regional Risk Reduction Initiative (R3I) workshop was held on May 3-May 6, 2011 at the Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino. The workshop is funded by the European Union and the United Nations Development Program. A presentation by Aruban disaster officials explained their major challenges as well as opportunities in the area of disaster management in order to keep the country safe and prepared.
